In 2013 Wesley and Kyla created "A Mile in my Shoes" scholarship for incoming high school seniors with the goal of continuing education around the importance of positive body and self image especially as a teen. The idea behind this scholarship was to give applicants a chance to share who they are and why they are important as this is something that will be asked of them often in the future as they prepare for life outside of high school.
Students from Animas High, Aztec High, Bayfield High, Big Picture High, Colorado Connections Academy, Durango High, and Ignacio High have participated in Photo Divine’s annual A Mile In My Shoes Scholarship and Photography Show.
2018 marks a shift for "A Mile in my Shoes" as the focus expands from a scholarship program for high school seniors to a platform to share and create change around a variety of issues in our community. The "A Mile in my Shoes" team are exploring the possibility of addressing different issues each year, this year engaging in stories of those without a home. The launch of our "A Mile in my Shoes" Homelessness Campaign is April 22, 2018 at the Fort Lewis College Ballroom. All are welcome to attend.
